David Olatoy's ballpoint pen renderings of his subjects interwoven flesh and visage call attention to his delicate, meditative approach to texture and the ethereal. Together, these features, he says,” are used to project a future, a space of self-expression and manifestation, a dream. The imagined interiors symbolise domestic perfection while the colours suggest that this is indeed an altered, even surreal reality, that Olatoye is examining and portraying. The paintings reveal the artist’s undeniable predilection for the past while leaning in sharply to the future.

Olatoye received his BFA at O.A.U.  in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and was one of the six artists selected for the Rele Young Contemporary Residency in 2020. In 2021, he showed in the exhibition Historical Fictions !! at Ronchini Gallery (London) and in 2022 in 1-54 Art Fair (Paris & London).

He has exhibited locally (Nigeria) and internationally - South Africa, UK and the USA.

Chukwudubem Ukaigwe is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, writer, and cultural worker who approaches his art practice as a conversation, or a portal into one, and in some instances, as an interpretation of this ongoing exchange.

Using specific mediums to create alternate and multiple realities that interact with each other in open dialogues, Ukaigwe presents the figure in his works in specific and diverse scenarios and paying attention to contemporary fashion, gazes and composition. He consciously uses a variety of mediums to relay a plurality of ideas, weighing an occurrence, feeling, or idea on a scale and then creating a narrative in his own language.

He earned his BFA (Honours) degree at the University of Manitoba and was the 2020 recipient of the Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration. His work has been exhibited internationally, recently in the group show Self-Addressed curated by Kehinde Wiley at Jeffery Deitch, Los Angeles.

He has exhibited across Canada, New York, London, Accra and Nigeria.

Through a practice spanning 20 years, Ayoola continues to question the issue of cultural identity and placement, taking inspiration from the disciplines of archaeology and anthropology, seeking the past and the lost to guide current action.

In this new body of work titled 'We Are Re-agents", Ayoola writes a visual letter to his generation and those generations coming after, who are interested in going back to the roots and connecting with the past – traditionally and culturally – to understand the present and utilise the knowledge to inform the future.

Ayoola received his BA in Fine and Applied Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria and later completed a residency with renowned Nigerian painter Tola Wewe. He has exhibited across Africa as well as in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States.
